UDig assisted a large healthcare provider with a migration of their ETL packages from SSIS to Informatica. Before beginning development, an inventory of data sources and an architecture diagram were developed. During development, the client’s staff was trained on Informatica providing the ongoing resource needed to support the new tool.
A large healthcare provider sought a partner to migrate their ETL capabilities from SSIS to Informatica, but did not possess the in-house knowledge to do so. In addition to simply migrating existing packages, several new transformations needed to be developed to account for a new architecture going live in the short term. Finally, the client sought to have their technical resources involved in the development of the solution in an “over the shoulder” capacity so they could learn the new tool and provide on going support.
UDig’s ETL Developer worked with the client to understand the existing architecture, and map out the migration from SSIS to Informatica. A Visio diagram of the existing architecture as well as a data source inventory was provided as an output of this step. While the migration was underway, UDig took extra time to train the clients’ technical resources, and provide hands-on learning experiences to setup the team for the transition. The SSIS to Informatica migration went smoothly, with minimal disruption to operations. Further Informatica packages were built with the remaining time in the engagement.
