Digging In is a regular series of blog posts profiling UDig employees. We hope this series helps you get to know our team and understand why we dig what we do! Today, we are sitting down with David Allen, State Government Lead.
UDig: Tell us a little bit about your background and your role at UDig.
DA: I’ve always been a technology generalist, having held various roles from leading software testing teams to serving as a CIO. I also ventured into cybersecurity and spent four years as a Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). I am in the state government vertical, focusing on business development in the State of Georgia.
UDig: Why UDig? What made us the right decision for you?
DA: Service has always been a core part of my life, whether in active duty or working for the state. When I moved to the private sector, I still had a strong pull toward public service. UDig gave me the perfect opportunity to return to serving the state and helping solve the same challenges I used to face. It was a chance to get back into familiar territory while working in the private sector.
UDig: What does “accelerate your success” mean to you?
DA: There’s a clear need for a firm like UDig in the public sector, and accelerating success means connecting with those clients, demonstrating why we’re the right partner, and then delivering on our promises. UDig is growing, and I’m able to use my knowledge of state government needs to bridge those gaps.
UDig: Why is UDig a good partner for the public sector?
DA: State agencies often talk about thought leadership, strategy, and vision, but struggle finding the time as they are focused on managing day-to-day operations. UDig has the experience to guide those strategic conversations to meet agency objectives. We bring a broader perspective to help frame the discussions and introduce new technology in a way that makes sense. It’s not always just about the budget for government agencies—there are many other considerations before adopting new solutions. We help them reflect on those factors and bring a thoughtful approach to the table.
UDig: What did you want to be when you grew up?
DA: Either an astronaut or fighter pilot.
UDig: What’s the most played song in your library?
DA: Anything by U2, any album. They’ve been a favorite for years.
UDig: What trivia category would you be best at?
DA: Definitely history – whether it’s U.S., world, or politics, I’m familiar with all of it.
UDig: How would you spend your day if we told you to take the day off?
DA: I’d spend it outdoors, either hiking, biking, or golfing.
