A Day in the Life of Jeremy Landi, Senior Consultant

A Day in the Life of Jeremy Landi, Senior Consultant
Back to insights

Ever wondered what a day in the life of one of our consultants looks like? This series dives into the details! Today, we’re spotlighting Jeremy Landi, a Senior Consultant based in Nashville. Here’s a glimpse into their typical day:

Morning

With two kids – my natural alarm clocks – I’m usually up early. My wife and I alternate morning runs, getting in a solid 3-5 miles before the day really starts. After a shower and breakfast, I help get the kids ready and make their lunches. By 8 or 8:30, I’m at my desk, ready to dive into work, typically from home. I love the hybrid model since I get to work in the office a couple of days a week, which is just a 15-minute commute. During the summer, when the kids were home, I was especially grateful for that office space!

Work kicks off with a stand-up meeting where we go over project updates, check for roadblocks, and generally ensure everyone’s aligned for the day. My current project is with a large hospital network, where we’re building a system to track and process insurance claims. It’s a complex project, especially since we collaborate with three other teams. I try to connect beyond my own project team as much as possible, both online and in person. UDig encourages that kind of cross-team collaboration, which not only strengthens projects but helps everyone grow their skills.

Lunch

If I’m working from home, lunch is a quick, quiet break. But if I’m in the office, I’ll head out for lunch, usually with others. It’s nice to get some face-to-face time with colleagues when there are others in the office!

Afternoon

Afternoons are my focus time. Mornings tend to be filled with meetings, so after lunch, I finally get to dive into the meat of the project work. I use a to-do list, which I update daily, to prioritize tasks and manage any new requests that come up. I typically work with a stack that includes some combination of React, .NET, SQL, Azure or AWS, and Terraform. The aim is to align with the client’s technology stack and integrate seamlessly into their environment.

On a day-to-day basis, I’m not only involved in hands-on coding but also in guiding the team’s growth, both technically and in their career paths. I lead architectural decisions and design principles, ensuring we’re building a scalable and maintainable product. My role often requires bridging business objectives with technical solutions, factoring in constraints like timelines, budget, and specific client needs to keep the project moving forward smoothly. This variety is what keeps the role engaging and dynamic.

UDig supports us in expanding our skills, offering a training budget that I’ve tapped into through Udemy courses, and I’m looking forward to attending a conference soon. Being in an environment where growth is encouraged has made me a better developer and team leader. I’ve learned that being available and building connections – attending Lunch and Learns, staying active on Slack, and offering support when needed – makes project transitions smoother. Once you start building those relationships, success seems to build on itself.

After Work

When work wraps up, I transition to family time. Hanging out with my kids, making dinner together, or, when I get the chance, hitting a mountain bike trail or going for a run is how I like to unwind. Occasionally, UDig organizes after-work events like Topgolf or holiday gatherings, and joining those with the team keeps me connected in a different way. It’s nice to kick back and enjoy the company of people I work with every day.
